DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for cooking and assisting in the preparation and the serving of food. In addition, employees in this class participate in cleaning and storing of foodstuffs. Employees work under direct supervision. Supervision may be exercised over the work of food service helpers. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
May supervise and participate in the ordering, production, preparation, serving of food and accurately following and adjusting recipes;
May supervise and participate in food safety and sanitation programs;
May clean area in kitchen used in food preparation, serving and storage as well as equipment used in preparation and serving;
May supervise food service workers involved in preparation and distribution of meals;
May maintain list of substitute’s workers and call substitutes as needed;
May prepare reports, bank deposits and other clerical duties as required.
FULL PERFORMANCES, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of modern methods of large scale cooking; good knowledge of the use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils; good knowledge of cleaning materials and sanitation procedures; demonstrated ability in the preparation of quantity and quality foods; ability to follow written and oral instructions and to use quantity recipes; ability to keep records and submit reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year paid experience in the preparation of food.
